Founder Spotlight: Shayne Swift and Karen Venable-Croft
Shayne Swift and Karen Venable-Croft are long-time colleagues in Prince George’s County (Maryland) Public Schools. Together, they launched Girls Global Academy, an all-girls International Baccalaureate (IB) high school focused on global citizenship for women of color. Using the challenging IB curriculum as a base, Shayne and Karen created a destination charter school that deepens young women’s self-conception, prepares them to compete in their chosen arena, and provides meaningful engagement with the broader world.
Shayne and Karen were CityBridge Residents in 2018 and 2019.
Girls Global Academy is an all-girls public charter high school in Washington, DC. Girls Global provides a diverse group of young women a global education that ignites empowerment and develops the confidence to influence change for global benefit.
