Founder Spotlight: Natalie Smith, Ph.D

Natalie found her calling in education while tutoring at an after-school program during college. After successful runs as a teacher and school leader in Prince George’s County and DC, she became the head of school at Sela Public Charter School, the city’s only Hebrew-language immersion school. Natalie launched Global Citizens Public Charter School, an elementary school that immerses children in Mandarin and Spanish as early as age three. Deeply committed to educational justice and well-versed in bringing together diverse communities of students, families, and teachers, Natalie is dedicated to creating equitable environments free of racial and class-based discrimination.

Natalie was a CityBridge Resident in 2019 and 2020.

Global Citizens is the first dual-language—Mandarin and Spanish—immersion school located east of the river. Global Citizen students will use language to liberate and advocate for themselves and those most marginalized.
