DC Wildflower received conditional charter approval and plans to open in 2022!

April 20, 2021 / Innovation, News, School design

We are excited to announce that the DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB) conditionally approved the launch of our incubated school, DC Wildflower last night! Through a liberatory and identity-affirming learning environment, DC Wildflower will provide students across the city with a high-quality Montessori education.

Unfortunately, Capital Experience Lab (CapX)—our other incubated school that applied for a charter—was not approved. The Board cited a lack of demonstrated need to sustain this school. Despite this decision, CapX received resounding praises from the PCSB on its strong application, skillful leadership, and innovative school model. One member noted that this was the best application he had read during his time on the board, while another stated this was the most difficult vote to come before her. We are extremely proud of both the DC Wildflower site entrepreneur, Maia Blankenship and the CapX founding team, Lanette Dailey-Reese and Alison Gillmeister. We look forward to witnessing their continued impact on the DC community.
